Description
USB Programming Cable with Mini GCAI Interface
High-speed data link for codeplug programming and firmware updates on MOTOTRBO R7 and compatible radios.
The Motorola PMKN4265A is a genuine OEM USB programming cable designed to connect compatible Motorola portable two-way radios to a PC for codeplug configuration, firmware updates, and software management. It features a USB-A connector on one end and a specialized Mini GCAI connector on the other, providing a secure, high-speed data interface for use with Motorola's Customer Programming Software (CPS).
The PMKN4265A is the updated revision of the PMKN4265 and is the required cable for programming the MOTOTRBO R7 and MOTOTRBO Ion. The Mini GCAI side connector is specific to these modern radio platforms and is not compatible with legacy XPR or APX series radios that use different connector types. The cable does not include programming software — CPS must be obtained separately through Motorola's software licensing channels.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Customer Programming Software (CPS) included with this cable?
No. The PMKN4265A is a standalone hardware cable. The required Motorola Customer Programming Software (CPS) must be obtained or licensed separately through Motorola's software channels to program or update radio codeplugs.
Can I use this cable to program legacy XPR or APX series portable radios?
No. The PMKN4265A uses a Mini GCAI connector that is specific to the MOTOTRBO R7, R7a, Ion, and APX N series. Legacy XPR and APX radios use different connector types and require a different programming cable such as the PMKN4147A.
Does this cable support firmware updates as well as codeplug programming?
Yes. The PMKN4265A supports full device programming operations including codeplug configuration, firmware flashing, and software license uploads when used with the appropriate version of Motorola CPS.
What should I do if the radio is not recognized by my PC when the cable is connected?
Ensure the radio is powered on and the Mini GCAI connector is fully seated in the radio's accessory port. Verify that Motorola CPS is installed and that your PC has the necessary USB drivers. Avoid disconnecting the cable or powering down the radio while a programming or firmware write operation is in progress, as an interrupted write cycle can corrupt the radio's firmware.
What is the difference between the PMKN4265 and the PMKN4265A?
The PMKN4265A is the current factory-authorized revision of the PMKN4265. It supersedes the previous part number and is the version currently shipping from Motorola. Both versions serve the same function; the PMKN4265A is the recommended replacement if you are reordering.
